The White House was at pains to defend President Joe Biden's decision not to visit East Palestine, Ohio, three weeks after the derailment disaster. President Donald Trump visited on Wednesday, shaming Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg into visiting and shaming President Biden himself into ... issuing a tweet.
Biden has put himself into a bind, because he will be attacked for staying away, but will also look like a copycat if he ultimately goes.
But why isn't every other Republican candidate there? I get that there are voters to reach in New Hampshire, and Sunday shows to do on TV, but why not visit the abandoned people of eastern Ohio?
This is why Trump is the frontrunner for the nomination in 2024. Only he seems to have to instinct to do what is right -- even if he often says what is wrong. His ambitious rivals had better learn -- and soon.
